Salon, the leader of these Martyrs, is commemorated in the manuscript Martyrology of Aachen. But in the Augsburg manuscript of Saint Ulrich, and in the Paris manuscript of our Labbé, Maximus is joined, but intermixed with others, Names of the Martyrs and no place of martyrdom is indicated in these. In the Rheinau and Reichenau manuscripts the following is contained: "In Mauretania, of Hilarius, Maximus." Notker names three Martyrs in these words: "In Mauretania, of Salon, Maximus, and Concessus, with the other Saints." Hilarius is missing, who is indicated in the manuscript of the Queen of Sweden esteemed by Holstenius, and in another Trier manuscript of Saint Maximinus, and is also written Hilarius. Four apographs of the Hieronymian Martyrology begin this day with these Saints thus: "III Ides of April. In Mauretania, the birthday of Salon, Maximus, Hilarius, Concessus, with the other Saints. And of Domninus," who in some is called Bishop and in the Blumianus MS is referred to the preceding day. For Salon, it is also written Sylo and Saloni. Florentinius suspects that under the name of "the other Saints" some sacred assembly of Clerics might be contained, whether Saint Domninus should be joined to them to whom the title of sanctity more strictly belonged according to ancient custom, and that at the end is added Domninus the Bishop, who is placed after them as worthy of especial veneration. We have had another consideration concerning Domninus, thinking that he belongs to the Dalmatian Saints of whom we have already treated, among whom are found Saints Domnio and Domnius. If, however, anyone on the basis of the Martyrologies already adduced or other monuments thinks he ought to be placed here, so far as we are concerned it is always permitted. In the ancient Tamlachtensian Martyrology among the Irish, this day begins with these Saints in this manner: "Of Hilarius, Salonia, Maximus, Concessus," without expression of place, which is often neglected in that manuscript.
