This third class of Martyrs is thus presented in the Echternach copy of the Hieronymian Martyrology: "At Capua, of Cyprianus, Muscula, Donata, Novella, Januarius, Silvanus, Mucianus." In the Lucca copy the same Martyrs are recounted,

but in place of "Capua" was read, through a fault of the copyists, "Caput." But in the Corbie codex "Capua" is also written out, and the names of the two last, Saturus and Julius, are added. In the manuscript Tallaght, mention is made of Cyprianus, Muscula, Donata, Novelia. In the ancient manuscripts Barberini and Cologne of Saint Mary at the Steps, and in the additions of Greven to Usuard, three are thus expressed: "At Capua, Saints Cyprianus, Novella, Silvanus." The same, with the place omitted, are referred to in the manuscript of Prague. But four are indicated in the very ancient manuscript of Reichenau: "At Capua, Cyprianus, Muscula, Donata, Novella." In the manuscript of the monastery of Saint Cyriacus: "At Capua, Cypriana." But Cyprianus is read in the Calendar prefixed to the works of Saint Isidore, often cited. Cyprianus and Julius, with no place indicated, are celebrated in the manuscripts of Aachen, Augsburg, and Labbé: and separately, at least in the Aachen, Saint Julius, Bishop of Rome; of whom we treat below on this day.
