G. H.

Two manuscripts of the Hieronymian Martyrology, one the Corbie printed at Paris, the other the Blumian, list these Martyrs thus: In Africa of Sericianus, Donatus, Helladius, likewise of Sericianus, Hermogenes, with two others. In the Epternach and Lucca manuscripts, there is a single Sericianus, who for others was Serecianus; and in the Epternach they are enumerated thus: And in Africa of Donatus, Sericianus, Helladius, likewise of Hermogenes with two others. Where the particle "likewise" in the former is better joined with a second Sericianus, whom we therefore retain.

[2] The same reading is confirmed by the codex of the Most Serene Queen of Sweden, whose words are these, also printed by Holstenius: In Africa of Donatus, Siricianus with five others, which number would not be complete if the second Sericianus were removed. In the Barberini Ms. are noted: In Africa of Sericianus, Helladius, Hermogenes. In the Augustan Ms. of Saint Udalricus and the Parisian of Labbe mention is made of Sericianus and Donatus. In the Martyrology of Rabanus there seems to be some fault, while, perhaps by the fault of the Copyists, these things are joined: In Africa of Calasranus Abbot, and of Hermogenes and Expeditus. Of these Hermogenes belongs to this class; and Expeditus to the preceding: or rather to the preceding group of Melitenian Martyrs, among whom is Galatas. Whence Calasranus may have been formed, who will say?
