This is an illustrious class of Martyrs, some of whom in the ancient Martyrologies of Monte Cassino and the Roman of Duke Altempsius are mentioned in these words: "In Africa of Julius, Victor, Cyricus, Honoratus." The same are indicated in the Vatican manuscript numbered 5949, and in place of Cyricus better "Siricus" is written. In the Roman manuscripts of Cardinal Barberini, and in that of Cologne of St. Mary ad Gradus, these are reported: "In Africa of Honoratus, Paul, Maximus, Apollonius." Who are also ascribed in Greven's Supplement to Usuard, in which separately (as also in the Aachen manuscript) mention is made of Virus, in others Vitus, and Siricus: and in the Trier manuscript of St. Maximinus of Siricus and Maximus. In the Reichenau manuscript more are indicated: "In Africa of Victor, Siricus, Honoratus, Felix, Paul, Maximus, Martianus." In the Augsburg manuscripts these names are set forth, without the place added: "Julius, Siricus, Paul, Maximus, Marcianus, Simplicius, Germanus, Gemellinus": where however in place of Julius and Marcianus is read "Juri and Martialis." But in four copies of the Hieronymian Martyrology, the names of all are handed down more distinctly thus: "In Africa of Julius, Victurinus, Siricus, Felix, Paul, Maximus, Victor, Simplicius, Pollion, Vitus, Calendinus, Apollonus, Marciana, Felicissima, Ethemia, Marcianus, Lectissimus, Simia, Germianus, Felicia, Evasia, Gemellinus." To which in the Corbie codex printed at Paris is added, "with their companions, of Silvanus." But for Victurinus, Ethemia, Lectissimus, and Gemellinus is also read "Victurus, Timia and Hernia, Litissimus and Gemellina." In the Florarium manuscript are celebrated, "many Virgins with many others": whether this should be taken of these Martyrs and their companions, who will say?
