CommentaryPublius, Martyr in Africa (Saint) Saturninus, Martyr in Africa (Saint) Maurianus, Martyr in Africa (Saint) Libosus, Martyr in Africa (Saint) Vincentia, Martyr in Africa (Saint) Others, 24 in number, Martyrs in Africa
By I. B.
These holy champions are commemorated in the old Roman Martyrology, or that of St. Jerome, as we have thus far cited it, in these words: "And in Africa, of Publius, Saturninus, Maurianus, Libosus, Vincentia, and 24 others." In the old Martyrology of Reichenau, or Augia Dives, near Constance, the following is found: "Africa, of Publius, Saturninus, Maurianus." The Carthusians of Cologne in their Additions to Usuardus record Publius on this day, with no place of his passion indicated. Several African Martyrs named Vincentia have been celebrated by us elsewhere, on January 17, 26, and 27. But no Libosus or Maurianus has thus far appeared.
