ON ST. COMMUNIS, MARTYR, AT TUSCANA IN ETRURIA.

Commentary.

Communis, Martyr, at Tuscana in Etruria (St.)

By I. B.

Tuscana (now commonly called Toscanella by Italians) is a very ancient city of Etruria on the river Marta, not far from Lake Bolsena, celebrated for its horse market. Philippus Ferrarius, in his Catalogue of the Saints of Italy, writes that St. Communis, Martyr, is piously venerated here on this day and that his body is preserved there; but he confesses that he does not know where or at what time he underwent martyrdom. In his General Catalogue of Saints, he says that his epitaph on marble can be seen; the Acts are lost.
