ON ST. FELIX, MARTYR AT ALEXANDRIA IN EGYPT.

The St. Felix the Martyr whom we separated in the preceding section from St. Fortunatus and his companions, we here celebrate separately with a briefer summary. Concerning him, the following is read in the ancient manuscript Roman Martyrology, which is St. Jerome's: At Alexandria, of Felix. Notker: At Alexandria, of Felix with his companions. But these pertain to some one of the preceding classes, and various ones are assigned in different Martyrologies. The Laetian manuscript: At Alexandria, the birthday of Saints Felix and Alexander. The manuscript of St. Martin at Tournai adds another: At Alexandria, the birthday of Saints Felix, Alexander, Nestor. These two are from the crown of the eight Martyrs from which the Martyrology of St. Jerome begins this day. To them a ninth, St. Felix, is added in the Aachen manuscript, and to the rest the words "at Alexandria" are placed before—which we noted is also done in the Reichenau Martyrology with the omission even of the name of Felix; and it is placed before Fortunatus alone in the manuscript of Queen Christina of Sweden. In the Liege manuscripts of St. Lambert and St. Lawrence, these words are read: On the same day, of St. Felix with his companions. It is added in the Brussels manuscript: twenty-seven, but these we have shown should be joined to St. Fortunatus.
