A brief notice of St. Theodotus the martyr, known from the Greek Menaea, who ended his life by the sword. The Bollandists consider him distinct from the various Theodoti in Latin martyrologies.

Commentary

Theodotus, Martyr (St.)

The Menaea for January 1: "On the same day the holy Martyr Theodotus ended his life by the sword." Then two verses follow, the sense of which is: "I shall not endure," said Theodotus, "unless I have redeemed the grace of God with my head." Several Theodoti are celebrated in the Martyrologies of the Latins, from whom, however, I consider this one to be different.
