Commentary

Victorinus, Abbot at Piacenza in Italy (S.) Ambrosius, monk at Piacenza in Italy (S.) Lucas, monk at Piacenza in Italy (S.) Privatus, monk at Piacenza in Italy (S.)

Ferrarius in the General Catalogue of Saints on the day before the Nones of January writes thus: At Piacenza in Cisalpine Gaul, the Blessed Victorinus, Abbot, Lucas, Ambrosius, and Privatus, monks. He cites in the Notes the records and ancient documents of the monastery of St. Sabinus, and says that a lesson exists that is customarily recited on their feast day, which treats of their translation; but that the time in which they lived is unknown: this is the day of the translation. On St. Sabinus, or Savinus, Bishop of Piacenza, from whom this monastery took its name, we shall treat on January 17 and December 11.
