ON ST. ANASTASIUS, MARTYR AT SIRMIUM.

Commentary

Anastasius, Martyr at Sirmium in Pannonia (S.)

Sirmium was once a distinguished city of Lower Pannonia. We conjecture that Anastasius was crowned with martyrdom here on January 6 from the manuscript Martyrology of St. Jerome, in which this is found: "At Sirmium: of Anastasius." Many of that name are celebrated in the Roman Martyrology among the Saints; none who was either killed at Sirmium or especially venerated there.
