THE DISCOVERY OF SS. BENJAMIN AND MAXIMUS AT BRESCIA.

1529.

Commentary

Peter Galesin records that on this day the relics of the holy Martyrs Benjamin and Maximus were discovered, in these words: "At Brescia, the Discovery of the holy Martyrs Benjamin and Maximus, who together with Faustinus and Jovita underwent martyrdom for Christ the Lord." In his Notes he writes that this Discovery occurred in the year of Christ 1529. The German Martyrology has the same, as does Ferrari in his general catalogue of Saints; who nevertheless denies that anything concerning them exists in the records of the Church of Brescia. We shall treat of SS. Faustinus and Jovita and their companions on February 15.
