ON ST. FLORIDA, VIRGIN.
CommentaryFlorida, virgin at Dijon in Burgundy (S.)
Ferrarius, Molanus in the Appendix, and the German Martyrology record that the feast of St. Florida the Virgin is celebrated today at Dijon in Burgundy. St. Gregory of Tours writes about her in De gloria Confessorum, chapter 44: "In this basilica" (of the castle of Dijon, in which St. Paschasia the Virgin was buried, as we noted on January 9, along with SS. Hilary and Quieta, parents of St. John, Abbot of Réomé, of whom we shall treat on January 28) "in this basilica, then, St. Florida also rests, who, as the local inhabitants report, changed her garment and was exceedingly religious." Andreas Saussay also mentions St. Florida in the Appendix to the Martyrology, though without assigning her a specific feast day; and Claudius Robert does so in his description of Dijon.
