SS. Saturus, Vitalianus, Felicitas, Quintus, and Artates, African martyrs known only from the manuscript Martyrology of St. Jerome and the ancient Irish Martyrology of Dungal. A brief commentary noting the scarcity of information about this group.

ON THE HOLY AFRICAN MARTYRS SATURUS, VITALIANUS, FELICITAS, QUINTUS, AND ARTATES.

Commentary

Saturus, Martyr in Africa (S.) Artates, Martyr in Africa (S.) Felicitas, Martyr in Africa (S.) Quintus, Martyr in Africa (S.) Vitalianus, Martyr in Africa (S.)

From various sources.

There were several men named Saturus in Africa who were crowned with martyrdom, as we shall often note elsewhere. We have not yet found another one joined with Vitalianus and Felicitas, etc. These are listed in the manuscript Martyrology of St. Jerome with these words: "In Africa: of Saturus, Vitalianus, Felicitas, Quintus, Artates." The first four are recorded in the very ancient Irish Martyrology of the convent of Dungal, with Artates omitted. Whether he is the same Artaxes recorded on January 9, we do not determine. Quintus is also mentioned in the manuscript Florarium.
