Commentary

Philoromus, Martyr in Africa (S.) Eugenius, Martyr in Africa (S.) Januarius, Martyr in Africa (S.) Quinctus, Martyr in Africa (S.) Saturninus, Martyr in Africa (S.) Vincentius, Martyr in Africa (S.)

Concerning these, the manuscript Martyrology of St. Jerome has: "In Africa, of Philoromus, Eugenius, Quinctus, Januarius, Saturninus, and Vincentius." Whether the Philoromus here is the same or another is not entirely clear; we shall treat of him under the following heading. Two men named Philoromus are recorded in the most ancient manuscript Martyrology of the convent of Dungal in Ireland, which also mentions Eugenius, Quinctus, Januarius, and Vincentius; the name of Saturninus has been obliterated by age and decay.
