Here is another class of Martyrs, which is found entire only in the greater Hieronymian codices in the praised Florentinius: At Antioch, of Severianus, Zoëlus, Epasus. The Epternach apograph corrupts the last name, writing for Epasus, Pasus, doubtless by the carelessness of the copyist. Florentinius rightly notes that these Martyrs are unknown to the rest of the Martyrologies published hitherto, for neither in the supplements of Bede, or Ado, or Usuard, nor in Rabanus or Notker would you find them anywhere marked. But how mutilated everywhere those codices are which we call the lesser Hieronymian, gather from the often-cited Usuardine preface numbers 29 and 30, where the Reichenau apograph, somewhat more correct than the others, has: At Antioch, of Severianus: but the Gellone, Augsburg, and Labbe codices indeed report the name of Severianus, but so mixed with others, or dislodged from its place, that from them you cannot at all recognize the position or wrestling-place of Severianus alone. No aid occurs from elsewhere, whereby we might hand down more concerning those of Antioch, and certainly it would be vainly sought elsewhere.
