On the third day of this month we treated of the holy Martyrs Marcus and Mocianus, and their notice was given, partly from various Greek Menologies, partly from the Menaea of the Ambrosian library, in whose excerpts there occurs, not on the III day, but the IV of this month, μνήμη τοῦ ὁσίου πατρὸς Μάρκου, "the memory of the holy father Marcus"; which is also read in another apograph of the said library, on the same IV day, simply, under the name of Marcus the confessor. Whence this Marcus seems to be distinguished from the other, who was both a Martyr and a companion of Mocianus, both from the different title of each, and from the different day of cult, and from the companion who is added to the one, not
likewise to the other. It would nevertheless be desirable that in more Menologies or synaxaries his memory should be found inscribed, so that his sacred cult might be more certainly established. Yet let him continue to enjoy the possession which he has hitherto enjoyed; since nothing sufficiently certain and solid compels us to dislodge him thence.
