The praised Epternach codex, after the first announcement, of which we have already spoken, In Alexandria, of Artos, immediately subjoins: And in Syria, of Zoticus, Palladius, and Severus, Zetus, Philip, Orator. The first letter of the last name I have dared to change, by the agreement of the Rhinow, Reichenau, and Queen of Sweden codices of the lesser Hieronymian Martyrologies, in which the text is indeed more contracted, but the name utterly the same: In Syria, of Arator. If anyone prefer Orator, let it be so read, for all I care: only let not that class be placed at Alexandria, either with the interpolated Lucca codices, or with the Corbie, in which it stands thus: In Alexandria, of Artos, Zetus, Pallatus, Philip, Severus, Julianus. This Julianus is known in no other codices, no more than Orator, and therefore is rightly excluded by us. I have judged that this handful of six Martyrs cannot conveniently be otherwise ordered, since in other apographs both confusion precedes and follows, as we shall presently say in the Nevedunum Martyrs.
