This Saint I here place on the faith of Claude Castellanus, most often praised by us, who in his Universal Martyrology first and alone consigned him, passed over by Saussay in the great Gallican one, He enjoys the title of Saint. as also by the other Martyrologies and Catalogues of the Saints which I have thus far seen. The brothers of Sainte-Marthe call him Sigibodus, expressly attributing the title of Saint, as to the second Bishop of Séez after St. Latuinus, but by name alone; so that this is at last the whole knowledge which we could gather concerning that Saint. One thing nearly deterred me from inserting him into our Acts,
that in the Breviary of Séez, such as exists among us printed about the year 1582, no memory at all of St. Sigisbald is found. But there prevailed, as I was already saying, the authority of Castellanus, a religious man in not rashly asserting Saints, at least Gallic ones, on whom I judged I could safely rely. For the rest, I have found nothing at all whereby anything is established concerning his deeds or age; Castellanus refers him to the fifth century, in which also I follow him.
