This pair of two Martyrs I draw out from the supplement to the printed Greek Menaea, from the manuscript Synaxary of Sirmondus and the manuscript of Chifflet, in which I read them marked in these words: Οἱ ἅγιοι Μάρτυρες Ἀνδρέας καὶ Πρόβος πυρὶ τελειοῦνται. SS. Andrew and Probus taken away by fire. The holy Martyrs Andrew and Probus are taken away out of the midst by fire. With these verses in the same place they are celebrated: Ἐστῶτες εἰς τὸ σκάμμα τοῦ πυρὸς, Λόγε, Ἀὔραις ἀνεψύχοντο σαῖς ἄνδρες δύο. While, O Christ, they stand fast in the abyss of fire, the two men are refreshed by thy breeze. In the same manner they are reported in the Mazarine Menaeon, and with the same verses; but for the participle στάντες, which I read there, the said supplement, having greater regard to the meter, puts ἑστῶτες. Nor does the same Mazarine read σκάμμα, but καῦμα. These two Martyrs also the Menaeon of Chifflet recounts, but without the verses. Let the reader take these few things about them in good part.
