The cult from the Greek Menæa.

Mamas is found marked in the printed Menæa, and their Index, and also in Maximus Bishop of Cythera, the place of cult being added, ἐν τῷ Σίγματι, "in the Sigma": for which the said Maximus faultily has περαν ἐν τῷ στίγματι, without doubt by the fault of the typesetter. For the rest, among the various churches consecrated to the Virgin Mother of God at Constantinople, that one existed, whose name was "in the Sigma," built by Constantine the Great, and afterward renovated by Justinian; finally collapsed by an earthquake, but restored far more elegantly by Basil the Macedonian, is to be read in Du Cange, book 4 of Christian Constantinople, page 96; where he observes, against Codinus, whom, when he says that he relates concerning this ruin of the church from an earthquake, that the church itself was called σεῖσμα or σῆμα, commonly before Σίγμα, he adds that he knows not whether in this matter he altogether merits credit. In the Supplement to the Greek Menæa from the Synaxary of Sirmond and the Ms. of Chifflet it is had on the day next following; as also in the Menæa of the Ambrosian library.

These Martyrs the printed Menæa offer us, and their Index with Maximus Bishop of Cythera. On the same day also the Supplement to the printed Menæa from the Synaxary of Sirmond and the Ms. of Chifflet recounts Andrew and Probus; the rest being deferred to the following day, the XIII of this month; on which it brings them forth thus, adding a new companion: Ἄθλησις τοῦ ἁγίου Ἀνδρέου, τοῦ στρατιώτου, Ἡρακλέου, Φαύστου, Μένα, καὶ τῆς συνοδίας αὐτῶν. On that day also they are marked in the Menæa of the Ambrosian library. The passion of St. Andrew the soldier, Heracleus, Faustus, Menas, and their Companions. In the Menæum of Chifflet I read on this XII day: Ἀνδρέα στρατηλάτου, καὶ τῶν αὐτοῦ. Of Andrew the leader of soldiery, and his Companions.
