I receive the band of six Champions from the Lucca codex, with which the Corbie codex agrees well enough, except that it adds Tinninius and Jocius, whom, passed over by others, I have admitted only as doubtful. In the most ancient Epternach codex, as we hinted above, the announcements are dislocated and transposed: for it writes, And at Antioch, of Macedo and Lampadius; then, At Constantinople, of Daretia, Lucian, Philip, Peter, Torquatus; where both the other codices, as well as those which Notker saw, constantly assign Lucian and the rest to Antioch. From the lesser copies, here too much abridged and even distorted, there is no help in either direction. I wrote Machadorus with the Lucca codex, rather than Macharius or Macedo, because that list seems purer than the rest, whence also Lampadius was taken, not Lampas, as it is wrongly read in Florentinius's Corbie codex, whose Tinninius and Jocius, whether they can be marked safely enough, I have already confessed to be uncertain. I preferred, however, to err on this side rather than on the other.
