It could be doubted whether a place should be granted to this Genevæus, or Geneveus, in our Acts, both because in the Catalogues he is related without the title of Saint, and because besides his name nothing has been handed down to memory of him, He is known by his cult alone. not even in Albert, otherwise a liberal encomiast of the popular Saints, in whom nevertheless he is endowed with the appellation of Saint. Saussay had preceded him, thus writing of him in the Supplement of his Martyrology: "On the same day at Dol in Armorica, the deposition of St. Genevæus, bishop of that church, there illustrious both by the memory of sanctity and by the cult of his name, and by the consignation of a certain birthday." But I would not have dared to lean on his authority or on Albert's, had not Castellanus, in this part more accurate, borne testimony concerning the cult of St. Genevæus; calling him not the bishop of Dol himself, but a regionary bishop, and superior of the monastery of Dol after St. Bridocus. If we believe Albert, he was elected in the year 634, and after a lustrum, in the year 639, migrated to the Lord.
