ON SS. VINCENTIUS AND COMPANIONS.
From the Hieronymian Martyrology.
CommentaryVincentius, Martyr at Lyons in Gaul (St.) Nina, Martyr in the same place (St.) Priscus, Martyr in the same place (St.) Sepaca, Martyr in the same place (St.) Hilarius, Martyr in the same place (St.) Felix, Martyr in the same place (St.) Castula, Martyr in the same place (St.) Epagatus, Martyr in the same place (St.) Amelia, Martyr in the same place (St.) Donatus, Martyr in the same place (St.)
G. H.
That these Martyrs are to be distinguished from the preceding, we gather from the Epternach copy of the Hieronymian Martyrology; where, after the former ones are related, these things are interposed: "Likewise others at Lyons," whose group is listed under these names, of Vincentius, Nina, Priscus, Sepaca, Hilarius, Felix, Castula, Epagatus, Amelia, Donatus. Some of these names are read a little differently in other transcripts: Nice, Prisca, Æmilia, and Donata. But after Castula another heading was placed in the said Epternach copy, namely, "In the same place." But in the other three copies, under the same heading "at Lyons," they are comprised, which we also do. Of these, Vincentius is in the manuscripts of Gellone, of Augsburg of St. Udalric, of Paris of Labbe, and of St. Gall in Switzerland.
ON SS. BARBARINUS AND COMPANIONS.
From the same Martyrology.
CommentaryBarbarinus, Priest, Martyr (St.) Humatus, Martyr (St.) Evasius, Martyr (St.) Honorata, Martyr (St.) Rogata, Martyr (St.)
G. H.
After the Martyrs of Lyons are related, with the particle "Elsewhere" prefixed, the names of these Martyrs are indicated, in the copies of the Hieronymian Martyrology already so often cited: namely Barbaruni the Priest, Humatus, Evasius, Honorata, Rogata. It is also written Honoratus. In place of Rogata in the Corbie manuscript Vincentia is added, and she seems to be formed from Vincentius of Lyons, the first in the latter order. If anyone, however, wishes her to be added to the rest as a sixth, it will be permitted by us.
