CONCERNING SAINT JULITTA,
HONORED BY THE GREEKS.
From the Manuscript Synaxarion of Dijon.
CommentaryJulitta, honored by the Greeks (St.)
G. H.
Several Saints occur in this our work,
called Julitta. Among
these is the illustrious Martyr, one of the seven
Virgins crowned with martyrdom with St. Theodotus at Ancyra
in Galatia; whose distinguished Acts of all of them, written in Greek by
Nilus as author and translated into Latin, we gave on
the 18th of May. Another is given below on 16 June, Julitta
and her distinguished deeds likewise the reader will find there.
There is also Julitta a Martyr, at Caesarea in Cappadocia
consumed by fire, whose praises St. Basil the Great
celebrated, to be referred to the 30th of July. Finally different
from all these, St. Julitta became known to us on this
14 June from a Manuscript Synaxarion, kept at Dijon in the College of the Society
of Jesus, and once communicated by Peter Francis
Chifflet, where she is said to have ended her life in peace,
and these verses are added:
"Julitta is led out of the little flesh
by the Word of God who for our sake appeared in the flesh."
He led Julitta out of the little flesh,
the Word of God seen in the flesh for our sake.
From which nothing else is had, than a testimony
of her death holily met: yet they had to be set forth here, in
the hope of fuller light to shine forth some day, if her Acts
are some day found consigned to letters.
