ON THE HOLY THREE MARTYRS,

FROM GALATIA, A PROVINCE OF ASIA MINOR.

From the same Synaxary of Dijon.

Commentary

Three Martyrs, in Galatia (SS.)

D. P.

No less than Palestine, Galatia abounded in Martyrs,

whose names and combats more than once occur

in this work, They are said likewise to have been struck with the sword. than that it should be worth the labor

here to commemorate them, or to say much

in preface about a province most known

to all. Here from the aforesaid Synaxary, beyond the rest

which we have seen copious, and abounding in Saints not yet

known from elsewhere, the Three aforenamed Galatians without

a more distinct notice of the martyrial arena are indicated,

in the same manner as the seventy of Scythopolis. "The

holy three Martyrs from Galatia, by the sword

are perfected."

The holy three Martyrs from Galatia, by the sword are consummated,

where or when it is not explained, but

a Distich is added.

"Three men are we, but by the word of one accord

As one, behold, we three go to the sword."

Three though we be, as one man, with equal accord

We come, behold, to submit our head to the sword.

Support the Translation

The Acta Sanctorum has never been available in English. This site is translating all of it: January through July are done, August is underway, and the calendar runs to November 10, where the Bollandists stopped in 1940. The scholarship pipeline is built; what remains is a compute bill. Contributions go directly to translating more of the calendar.

The Acta was a funded enterprise for three centuries; the translation runs the same way. Everything here is free and stays free whether you give or not. Wroot Press is a small independent press — an imprint of Wroot Labs LLC, not a charity. Contributions aren't tax-deductible; they buy compute.
