ON SAINT DOMETIUS, AMONG THE GREEKS.

Commentary

Dometius, among the Greeks (Saint)

[1] The memorial of Saint Dometius is inscribed at March 6 in the manuscript Greek Menologium collected by order of the Emperor Basil Porphyrogenitus, in these few words: He is venerated on March 6, 7, and 8. "And of the holy Dometius." The same is read in the ancient Greek Menaea of the Ambrosian library in codex O, number 148, but at March 7. On which same day in the very ancient Claremontane Synaxarium of the Society of Jesus in Paris, slightly augmented, these words are read: "And of our holy father Dometius." But on this eighth day, in the manuscript Chifflet Synaxarium, it is added: "He ended his life in peace." Which is also read in Maximus Cytheraeus and in the great Menaea, where this distich is added:

"Dometius discharged the debt of death, Received by guiding Angels."

The rest is still unknown to us. Another Saint Dometius, a native of Phrygia, is to be given by us below at March 23, who, because he publicly denounced the impiety of Julian, who was recalling the people to idolatry, after enduring various torments was struck with the sword and crowned with the palm of martyrdom.
