The third this is class of Martyrs, reported in four ancient of the Martyrology Hieronymian apographs, which in the Epternac thus is commemorated: In Africa of Probata, Meca, Petrus, Dativus, Januarius, Fortunio, Thecla, Lucella, Maxima, Matrona. In the other apographs is wanting the arena of martyrdom Africa: then in the Lucca is read Probata, & in the other three Mœca by the diphthong. Moreover in the Corbey printed at Paris are wanting the names of Dativus, Lucella, Maxima & Matrona. For these Bucella is written in the MS. Blumian. Of these the two former with the arena Africa thus in the MSS. Reichenau & Rheinau are referred: In Africa of Probatus & Petrus: which two, the place of martyrdom not indicated, are commemorated in the MSS. Augsburg of S. Udalric, & Parisian of Labbé: but in this Probata is written, as also in the MS. Aachen & in the Supplement of Grevenus: but is joined the name of Medius or Midaris, about whom in the first class it was treated. In the MSS. Florarium & Treves of S. Martin, & in the third & fourth Calendar Capuan in Michael the Monk, is proposed Petrus with Cyrillus, about whom in the following class it is treated. Some of the same name Martyrs also are found below in the class of the Tarsensian Martyrs. But, as observes also Florentinius, in so great a crop of Martyrs, it does not seem of belief difficult, that bare names several times coincide. In the MS. Tamlacht are indicated the names of Probata, Moca, Petrus, Diutius, in the place of Dativus, Januarius; Furio, in the place of Fortunio, Thecla, Lucella, Maxima, Matrona.
