The Getuli or Gaetuli, peoples of Africa,
oftener changed the seats of their habitation: hence by
Ptolemy they are placed in the interior of Libya, by
Honorius between Carthage and Numidia,
by Pliny in Mauritania Caesariensis, by others
elsewhere. But in the region of these, Gaetulia, but without more distinct
notice these Martyrs are indicated to have suffered for the faith by
four copies of the Hieronymian Martyrology, of which
the most ancient Echternach hands down these things: In Getulia of Aemilius,
Basilius, Praetextata, Basia, Partinus. In other copies
is said The birthday of these Saints, and in the place of Aemilius and Basilius,
in the Corbie MS. printed at Paris is had Aemelus and Baselus,
but the last is wanting in the Lucca codex: in which
also in the place of Praetextata is written Praetestatus, and in the
Blume MS. Protestata. In the place of Basia in others is Basilia: and
Partinus in the said Corbie is Parthimios. In the Reichenau MS.
or of Augia the rich it is thus read: In Getulia of Aemelius:
as also is written, but the palaestra being omitted, in the Augsburg MS.
of S. Udalric; and Aemilius in the Paris MS., submitted to us by Philip
Labbe. The names of Aemelius and Basilius
are mentioned also in the Hibernian MS. of the monastery of Tamlacht.
