Neither is this handful of Martyrs much purer than the preceding. By all of them Antoninus is prefixed, concerning whom, since he has been treated separately from the Greek Calendars, he was not to be repeated here. The texts of the codices vary somewhat in the names, especially the Epternach one. Here too the Corbie one seemed purer, from which accordingly we have copied the names, more in number than the other lists report. As regards the various ways of forming the names, you will surely labor in vain at putting them together. They are most of all contorted in the already mentioned most ancient Epternach codex; Florentinius gave somewhat neater ones; we here have followed the Corbie one to the letter. From the contracted Hieronymian Martyrologies nothing but new darkness is poured over this day.
