ON ST. PONTIANA, MARTYR, AT GENOA IN LIGURIA.
Commentary.
Pontiana, Martyr, at Genoa in Liguria (St.)
Author I. B.
In the year 1640, the Proper Offices of the holy Church of Genoa were published from an Apostolic concession, reviewed by order of the Most Eminent and Most Reverend Lord Cardinal Stefano Durazzo, Archbishop of Genoa. To these on page 53 is appended a Calendar of Saints who are celebrated in particular churches of Genoa. In this, on the 27th of February, St. Pontiana, Martyr, is noted, who is said to be celebrated in the Church of St. Nicholas of Tolentino; and her Head is said to be preserved there. However, at what time she met her death, and in what place or manner, we have not discovered, nor have we read her name elsewhere up to now.
