Thus the text of Florentinius announces from his codex or codices: nor does the Epternach codex greatly differ, except that it has, as I said, somewhat involved the matter and the names: for after the confusion assigned to the number of the African martyrs, it immediately, without any position, subjoins: Of Passer, Maximus, Julianus, Macrobius, Cassius, Paula with 10 others. Delete Passer, and substitute Sabinus, and thou wilt have the whole class of Damascenes above set down, so that I do not see that much can be doubted of it, excusing all those things which Florentinius rightly noted concerning the Epternach codex in that place: nor indeed ought we to be terrified that somewhere Julianus obtains the leadership instead of Sabinus: there are no angers in heavenly minds; nor will Passer or Passerius, whether it be here true, or a name corrupted from the Roman Passeria, to be adduced below, take it ill to be passed over. Thus will be saved the announcement of Usuardus, concerning which we treated long ago in our observations, having now nothing new which we see should be superadded to what was there said.
