ON SS. ORESTES, DIOMEDES, AND RHODON,

MARTYRS AMONG THE GREEKS.

From the Ms. Synaxaria.

Commentary

Orestes, Martyr honored by the Greeks (S.)

Diomedes, Martyr honored by the Greeks (S.)

Rhodon, Martyr honored by the Greeks (S.)

G. H.

The illustrious Greek Ms. Synaxarion

of the Church of Constantinople, which

belongs to the Clermont College

of the Society of Jesus at Paris,

this day IX June begins with these

three Martyrs; but to be lamented,

that no elogium of them, as of others there,

is added. The words are these: On the IX day of the same month

of June, the contest of the holy Martyrs Orestes,

Diomedes, & Rhodon. The same things are read in the Mss.

Greek Menaea, which we ourselves found in the monastery

of Crypta-Ferrata in Latium, at Paris in the Library of

Cardinal Mazarin & of the Fathers of the Order of S. Dominic

of the Congregation of S. Louis, & at Turin in the Library

of the Duke of Savoy. There is some Rhodon

Martyr, by us from Latin Mss. related on III January.

But various Martyrs, with the name of Orestes & Diomedes,

are found in the Fasti, both Latin and

Greek; but nowhere these three or two of them are joined.

Support the Translation

The Acta Sanctorum has never been available in English. This site is translating all of it: January through July are done, August is underway, and the calendar runs to November 10, where the Bollandists stopped in 1940. The scholarship pipeline is built; what remains is a compute bill. Contributions go directly to translating more of the calendar.

The Acta was a funded enterprise for three centuries; the translation runs the same way. Everything here is free and stays free whether you give or not. Wroot Press is a small independent press — an imprint of Wroot Labs LLC, not a charity. Contributions aren't tax-deductible; they buy compute.
