Notker in his Martyrology has these things: In Africa, of Secundianus and many Martyrs: whom by their own names express the four ancient copies of the Hieronymian Martyrology: in which, after the reported SS. Victor and Corona Martyrs of Syria, of these there is treatment, but with some variety. And in the codex indeed of Echternach these things are read: In Africa, of Secundinus, Quartus, Januarius, Medianus, and Adauctus, Denecutia, Alexander, Proculus, Aframus, Adauctus, Adeodatus. In the Corbie MS. printed at Paris, in this manner they are set forth: In Africa the birthday of Saint Secundianus, Quartus, Victorianus, Januarius, Medion, Alexander, Afranianus, Maximinus, Proculus, Audactus, Adeodatus. With this Corbie codex agree in number and order of the Martyrs the Lucca and Blume copies, but in place of Afranianus they have with the Echternach MS. Aframus, as in place of Audactus the Blume MS. has Adauctus. We say the former Adauctus, the latter Audactus, even from this that the particle "and" elsewhere customary is likewise not prefixed. In another Corbie MS. not yet printed these things are read: In Africa the birthday of S. Secundianus, Quartus, Victorianus. But concerning Secundianus a question is moved, whether another is to be established than Secundinus, who in the Echternach MS. is reported. Furthermore the MSS. of Rheinau and of Reichenau have: In Africa, of Secundinus, Secundianus; and "Quartus" is added in the Reichenau one. Meanwhile in the aforesaid Martyrologies above indicated there is not but Secundianus in four MSS. and in one alone Secundinus. In the Paris MS. of Labbé, without the arena Africa, are commemorated the names of Quartus, Secundianus, Proculus, and Maximus, in place of Maximinus. The same are read in the Augsburg MS. of S. Ulric, but in place of Secundianus, by the fault of the copyists is written Sebastianus. Finally in the Aachen MS. those things are handed down: In Africa, of Victor, Secundinus, Quartus. Of these Victor pertains to the Syrian or Milanese Martyrs, among whom on this day is a Victor; unless it be Victorianus, who is the companion of these African Martyrs. The same, the arena being omitted, are indicated in Grevenus in the Auctarium of Usuard. In the Tallaght MS. are the names of Secundinus, Quartus, Victorinus, Januarius, Madianus, Alexander, Maximinus, Adactus. Likewise Affronindis and Palus, perhaps in place of Afranianus and Proculus; indeed also Eutherius, not indicated by others. Galesinius, citing his most fallacious MS., sets forth these things. At Rome, of the blessed Martyrs Victor, Quartus, and Isidore. Of a double Victor we have treated, from whom a third Victor on the following day is reported to have suffered at the Roman Port. Concerning S. Isidore also we shall treat on the following day.
