G. H.

We gave on the VI day of this month very many Martyrs who suffered at Milan, and we said from S. Ambrose that the city of Milan possesses peoples of Martyrs, of which we judge these four to have survived to this day, and then to have undergone the glorious contest of martyrdom. These the most ancient copy of the Hieronymian Martyrology, that of Echternach, thus reckons. At Milan, of Victor, Nemor, Felix, Rusticus. The same are in the other three copies of the same Martyrology: The name of Nemor variously written, but who here is "Nemor," in the Lucca and Blume ones is written "Namor," in the Corbie one printed at Paris "Timor." In the Appendix of Ado in Mosander and Rosweid is read "Camor," everywhere the second and third syllables being preserved in the same manner: from which Notker deflects, when he writes these things. At Milan, of Victor, Nabor, Felix, Rusticus: judging perhaps these to be the Martyrs of illustrious fame, Nabor and Felix, who suffered at Milan on the XII of July, from whom we judge these others. Meanwhile in the Reichenau MS. they are handed down to have suffered on this day, at Milan, Victor and Nabor. But, or omitted. Nemor or Nabor being omitted, three others in the MSS. of the Roman one of Cardinal Barberini, the Trier one of S. Maximinus, and the Ado of Liège of S. Lawrence, are thus indicated: At Milan, of Victor, Felix, Rusticus. The last two, the arena being omitted, are commemorated in the MS. of Prague, and with the arena in the MS. Florarium.

[2] There are adjoined in most MSS. three hundred or four hundred and four, who suffered with S. Cyricus, The 304 or 404 are not to be joined. as though they had been companions of the said Martyrs: indeed in the MS. Vatican, marked with the number 5949, there are ascribed at Milan three hundred and four Martyrs. But in the most ancient MS. of Echternach, after the reported Milanese Martyrs, there are said elsewhere three hundred and four Martyrs, who suffered with Cyricus. But these are they who at Tarsus in Cilicia, or, as others have, at Antioch suffered with S. Cyricus, or Quiricus and Julitta his mother, on the XVI of June. For on this day in the said most ancient MS. of Echternach these things are read: At Antioch, of Cyricus and Julitta his mother and of others, CCCCIV. But in place of Cyricus in various MSS. is read today Cyriacus. Hence also Cyriacus is reported among the Martyrs of this day in the Aachen MS., and the Auctarium of Grevenus to Usuard.

[3] There is commemorated also on this day the translation of S. Victor the Moor at Milan, by Galesinius, Molanus, Ferrarius, The translation of S. Victor the Moor. whose Acts we gave on the VIII of April; which we wished to indicate, lest it be confounded into one with this Victor.
