This handful of martyrs too becomes known from the Hieronymian transcripts alone, in which the text is from time to time dislocated. I have set forth the names according to the Corbie Martyrology, which here seems more correct than the rest, and in which it is thus read: In Asia, the birthday of St. Diofolus, of Matrona, of Thecla the virgin, of Heraclia. The Epternach codex has: In Asia, of Diosilus, of Matrona, of Thecla the virgin, of Heraclius. In the codex of Florentinius, as I said above concerning Ammon, and as he himself observes in the notes, the words in Asia have dropped out together with the name of the preceding martyr, and thence these martyrs seem there to be announced at Nicomedia; but he rightly notes that this is to be corrected from other codices. Therefore, the place being omitted, I subjoin the words, corrupted also in other respects: The birthday of the holy Diofolus, of Matrona, of Thecla, virgin, virg., of Heraclia. In the more abridged codices these four martyrs are for the most part passed over: Thecla alone is named in the Labbean and Gellone codices. The Appendix of Ado exhibits the first three in this manner: Likewise in Asia, of SS. Diophilus, Matrona, and Thecla the virgin.
