These four Martyrs are recorded on today's day among the Hieronymian transcripts in Fiorentini thus: At the port of Rome, of Hippolytus, Trajanus, Quadratus, Primus. So there; and the most ancient Antwerp manuscript is cited. If those Martyrs suffered in the same place and time, as their announcement seems to indicate, the difficulty is removed which otherwise presents itself from those of the same name who are marked elsewhere on this same day. For thus Hippolytus will be distinguished from the one of the same name who in the aforesaid Fiorentini is marked at the Roman port without companions; Quadratus from the two others of the same name, of whom also we treat on this day; Trajanus from the one of the same name who in the Martyrology of Rabanus, and of the Plantin Bede, is joined with Luxurius or Luxorius, whom we give today; Primus, finally, from the one of the same name who is reported in the same Fiorentini from a manuscript codex of the Queen of Sweden, In Sardinia. We meanwhile have given our Martyrs above in the same order and manner in which we found them marked among the said transcripts, even though they differ greatly from the announcement which Fiorentini recites from sheets sent to him in these words: In Sardinia, the birthday of Luxurius, Trajanus, Quadratus the bishop, Primus.
