ON ST. JOHN THE HERMIT, OF RUSELLO IN ABRUZZO OF ITALY,
CommentaryJohn the hermit of Rusello in Abruzzo of Italy (St.)
J. P.
Ferrari in the Catalogue of the Saints
of Italy thus praises him at
this day: John the hermit
of Rusello, a village of Hither Abruzzo,
of the diocese of Trivento, among whom
he is reported to have led a solitary life
and to have shone with miracles, has veneration
on this day: whose body is kept there.
But in the Catalogue of the Saints who are not in
the Roman Martyrology he thus announces him again: At Rusello
in Abruzzo, of St. John the hermit.
But in the notes he confirms the matter from his
Ms. Life, which is kept in the church of Rusello, a village of Abruzzo,
of the diocese of Trivento, where he rests and
has veneration. Castellan in
his universal Martyrology also relates him
in this manner: In the diocese of Trivento, on the borders of Abruzzo
and of the County of Molise, St. John of Rusello,
a solitary. I have sought in vain among us a copy of the Life
mentioned above by Ferrari: yet upon the credit
of that same hagiologist asserting that this Hermit
is honored, I have thought a place should be given him in our Work
among the other heavenly ones of the present day,
even though from elsewhere he is utterly unknown to me.
