ON ST. PATRICIUS, MARTYR AT NEVERS,
CommentaryPatricius, martyr at Nevers. (S.)
Of this martyr there is talk in the additions to Usuard, in Ferrari and du Saussay. In the Lübeck-Cologne edition of Usuard: In the district of Nevers, of St. Patricius, martyr; in Ferrari's catalogue at 1 November: In the territory of Nevers, of St. Patricius, martyr; and in a note he cites the martyrologies of Maurolico and Felice, then advises that the proper tables of the church of Nevers be consulted. Du Saussay in the supplement to the Gallican martyrology at the Kalends of November: At Nevers, of St. Patricius, martyr, killed in the territory of this prelacy while he was defending the divine law. What Ferrari advised, that the proper tables of the church of Nevers be consulted, we have indeed diligently done, and we went to the city of Nevers, consulted the bishop, questioned learned men of the city clergy, and in vain sounded to all the unknown name of an unknown man. They knew nothing of the martyr Patricius. Known to them was one Patricius, an abbot, whose feast day they keep on the 24th of August. Nor could I in any way fish out from elsewhere who this Patricius was.
